5 Warning Signs Your Compressor Needs Attention

Published date: 26 Feb 2026

We know that compressed air keeps factories moving and when it fails, production often stops. However most breakdowns don’t come out of nowhere; approximately 87% show warning signs at least two weeks before failure.

Here’s some of the signs our Engineering Manager advises to keep an eye on:

1. Unusual Noises or Vibration
Grinding, rattling, squealing or new vibration can signal something’s wearing out

2. Drop in Air Pressure or Output
If pressure dips, tools slow down or your system takes longer to build air; you may be dealing with leaks, clogged filters or control system faults

3. Overheating or Frequent Shutdowns
Rising discharge temperatures, heat alarms and motor overloads can indicate restricted oil and air flow, blocked filters, degraded oil or failing ventilation

4. Increasing Energy Bills
When compressors work harder to compensate for leaks and other problems, energy use will climb

5. Moisture or Oil Leaks
Moisture can suggest issues with drains or dryers and oil leaks can signal worn seals, loose fittings or internal wear

These symptoms might seem small but could be an indicator that your compressed air system is under stress. Acting early prevents unplanned downtime, protects your equipment and keeps production running smoothly.
